To stay in touch w/ US - use Skype over WiFi (usually can find free WiFi with long range antenna). To stay in touch with those not using Skype - you can buy Skype in/out for another $20-$50 for 3 mos.

Cell service is GSM 1900  - AT&T or T-Mobile, or the newer multiband phones. My AT&T iphones have GSM 1900

If you need phone service - Best deal is Telestial sells a prepaid Bahamas SIM card for $89. This includes a $20 airtime credit. All incoming calls, even ones from the US, are $0.33 per minute which is the local rate for local calls. You can recharge your minutes online or locally at a variety of tobacco shops, convenience stores, gas stations or newspaper stands.

Otherwise calls range 1.99 to 2.99 per minute incoming or outgoing.

If your current service is AT&T - without doing anything - calls are $2.29/min, or you can add intl plan for $5/3 mos and reduce to $1.99/minute

Data: - $25 for 20mg. (compared to my Veriazon droid tablet plan of $20/1 gb (1000 mg), or iphone maybe $30 for 2 gb. So - again - best choice is (free) Wifi
