Dickerson Rendezvous - Regatta!

On Saturday we had the traditional Dickerson regatta. This is an important event - the winner becomes our new Commodore for the year!

Our new friends Rich and Connie joined us. Rich is working on his D36 - an old woody from 1965.

The race course was a 6 legs over 12 miles. 4 legs beating into the NW wind, 1 run, 1 reach

It was something to see 11 old Dickersons out there racing - old woodies, ketches, more modern D37 sloops and a D50 - the flagship of the fleet. The winds were blowing 15 to 20 knots gusting 25 knts, the Dickersons loved it.

Toogoodoo beating up wind in 20 knots flying the job and jigger.
We had a great sail. We thought we had a slight chance at the last leg of besting our sistership D41 Plover - but well they and... well - almost everyone else - did better. We came in 9th. Jake Baer in his absolutely stunning D50 Velamore won - and hence is our new Commodore this year!

After crossing the finish line we continued up the Tred Avon river and anchored in Town Creek just off Schooners with Morning Light and Plover.

That night, we had the awards dinner party at the Tred Avon Yacht Club. It was a really a nice affair, great food, great company, 60 great sailors and a lot of Dickerson love.

After the party we headed back to our boats anchored in the _ river. D and Don Wogaman, Bill Brurry, and Ken Bernholz all dropped by and visited on Toogoodoo. What fun. I showed them around, and got some great advice to help me get started in the right direction with some rot repair projects that I want to get started on. Great fun!
